Bosley first came to us in the fall of 2005 from a shelter in southern Ohio, along with another male. They were due to be euthanized in a matter of a few days, but a volunteer saw something in them and felt they deserved a chance to live. Unfortunately we didn't have the space at the time and decided to board them, since this is a practice so many other groups are involved in. We were skeptical, but decided to give it a try. Luckily it was only a couple of weeks before we had a foster home open up and take him in. While he was boarded though, we learned he was male dog aggressive. Sad to say, he did not get the best of care while being boarded....we have high standards for how our boxers should be treated and this quality of care was not shared by the facility. He was a high energy boy, typical of boxers, and spent several months learning manners and how not to barrel into people. He is also a very big boy, weighing in at 75# and even possessing more strength to push around that weight. The foster home was pleased with his progress and found what we though would be a wonderful forever home. Bosley had a family, but after 6 months and less then 12 hours notice, he was returned to rescue. Again......no foster home was available, so Bosley was boarded with another facility that took very good care of him. It took us a little longer to place the boxers that were in foster care, so Bosley spent a few months being boarded. This was way too long, but Bosley finally came back to his original foster mom.
He's been back in foster care for several months and some new issues have come to surface. While he does well with his foster Boxer sisters, he does have problems meeting new dogs. We have also learned that visiting new places has created an anxiety he is not able to handle. These anxieties are probably due to poor socialization and abandonment issues he has experienced. He is not a youngster and did not develop these concerns overnight, so this will not resolve overnight. LBR enrolled him in an obedience class and he has already made progress. He would get so nervous and concerned about the dogs around him at first, it was hard for him to focus and respond to food but not anymore! His foster Mom is so proud of him and can already see he will excel given the time and love no one else ever tried too.
LBR has spent a total of $3,275.99 on Bosley's medical bills and prior boarding fees. This total does NOT include food, treats, toys, and other non-medical items. These types of things are purchased by his foster home out of their own pocket.
